The state legislature designated part of the coal severance funds to support education and economic development in coal producing counties.  Some of these dollars are allowing Kentucky Dataseam to provide computers, educational programs, and scholarships in participating coal county schools.

Additionally, the program is working with local school districts and universities to develop new technologies and innovative ways to use technology in the classroom.

Each participating school contributes computing cycles so that researchers at state universities can complete important research.  Over 35 school districts are participating in the program.

Dataseam is currently taking applications for grants to provide new computers to participating schools. Deadline for application is September 30, 2008, although we expect most grants to be fulfilled by that date.
